I never thought I'd say a heart attack was good news, but here we are. Back in 2016, I had what you might call a very dramatic wake-up call, the kind that involves ambulances and a lot of concerned faces. But here's the plot twist, while they were checking out my heart, the doctors discovered I was a type 2 diabetic. Surprise!

Now you'd think finding out you have two major health issues would be the definition of bad luck. But honestly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Turns out, taking care of diabetes by eating better, and managing my blood sugar, is basically the same recipe for keeping my heart happy. It's like a medical two-for-one deal.

So instead of juggling separate treatment plans, I got this neat little package. Address the diabetes and help the heart at the same time. Who knew these two were such team players? I've gone from ignoring my health completely to actually understanding what I'm putting in my body.

The real gamechanger was making the effort to learn the right way to eat. And I mean really learn, not just follow whatever diet is trending on social media that week. I had to educate myself about carbs, proteins, healthy fats, the whole nutritional landscape. It wasn't sexy or exciting, but it was necessary. Consistency became my new best friend.

What surprised me most was learning to avoid all the fads and bad choices that so many people fall into. KETO anyone? Every week there's some new miracle diet or supplement promising to cure everything. I had to tune out that noise and stick with what actually works: balanced eating, regular exercise, and yes, those daily medications. It's not glamorous, but it's effective.

The heart attack was terrifying, sure, but it led me to tackle the diabetes I didn't even know I had. And in doing so, I ended up protecting my heart at the same time. Sometimes the universe has to hit you pretty hard to get your attention. Mine came with chest pains, double bypass surgery, and a hospital stay, but it also came with a roadmap for actually living healthier. I'm not going to lie and say it's been easy, but it's been easier than I thought it would be and it has been worth it. Two birds, one lifestyle change.

Gathered here is a lot of what I have learned. Articles about all aspects of diabetes, how to treat it, the types, dietary information, and more. Gathered here, along with things I’ve created, are links to over 300 different reliable sources of advice and information. If you have diabetes, or want to learn more about it, spend some time exploring here. I am sure you will find helpful information.

Remember. I am not a doctor. This should not be taken as medical advice. That should only come from your medical team. Everyone is different and only your medical team are in a position to give you the best medical advice. This is simply what I have learned and what has helped me and many others live healthier lives.
